Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
At PeerChat Technologies, we believe your data belongs to you. Our self-hosted model is built on this principle — your communication data stays on your infrastructure, under your control. This policy explains how we handle the limited data we do collect.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you register for PeerChat, we collect your name, email address, organisation name, and role. For paid plans, we also collect billing information including business address and GST number.
Usage Data
We collect anonymised usage analytics such as feature adoption metrics, login frequency, and general platform performance data. This helps us improve the product experience.
Support Data
When you contact our support team, we collect the information you provide in your support requests, including any attachments or screenshots you share.
Self-Hosted Deployment Data
For self-hosted deployments, PeerChat does not have access to your messages, files, or any communication data. All such data resides entirely on your own infrastructure. We may collect anonymised telemetry data (e.g., version number, active user count) solely for product improvement, and you can opt out of this at any time.
2. How We Use Your Data
Service Delivery
We use your account information to provision your PeerChat instance, manage your subscription, and provide customer support.
Product Improvement
Anonymised usage analytics help us understand which features are most valuable, identify bugs, and prioritise our product roadmap.
Communication
We may use your email address to send important service updates, security notices, and billing-related communications. Marketing emails are opt-in only, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Legal Compliance
We may process your data as required to comply with applicable Indian laws and regulations, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
3. Data Storage and Self-Hosted Model
Your Infrastructure, Your Data
PeerChat is designed as a self-hosted platform. When you deploy PeerChat on your own servers or private cloud, all communication data — messages, files, media, and user-generated content — is stored exclusively on your infrastructure. PeerChat Technologies has no access to this data.
Customer Control
You maintain full control over your data, including storage location, retention policies, encryption keys, backup strategies, and access controls. This model is specifically designed to meet the data localisation and sovereignty requirements of Indian regulated industries.
PeerChat-Managed Data
Data we do manage (account information, billing records, support tickets) is stored on servers located in India, protected by industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.
4. Third-Party Sharing
Service Providers
We share limited data with trusted service providers who assist with payment processing, email delivery, and analytics. All providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the specified purpose.
No Selling of Data
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or any other purpose.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of PeerChat Technologies, our users, or the public.
5. Cookies and Tracking
Essential Cookies
We use essential cookies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and ensure the security of your account.
Analytics Cookies
We use anonymised analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with our website. You can opt out of analytics cookies through your browser settings or our cookie preferences panel.
No Third-Party Advertising Cookies
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels on peerchat.in or within the PeerChat application.
6. Your Rights
Access and Correction
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and to request correction of any inaccurate information.
Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. We will process your request within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements.
Data Portability
You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
Withdraw Consent
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
Grievance Redressal
In accordance with the DPDP Act, 2023, you may raise grievances with our Data Protection Officer. We will acknowledge your grievance within 48 hours and resolve it within the timelines prescribed by law.
7. Data Security
Encryption
All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS 1.3. Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256.
Access Controls
We implement strict role-based access controls. Employee access to customer data is limited to what is necessary for support and service delivery, and is fully audited.
Incident Response
We maintain a comprehensive incident response plan. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours in accordance with applicable law.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through a prominent notice on our website at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of PeerChat after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
